The Great Outdoors!

“Kids vs Nature”

This flyer is designed to capture the interest of children and parents alike and inspire a trip to a national park. With free access for 4th graders and their families, the flyer can lead to amazing experiences so the main image is key in showcasing a potential adventure in epic scenery.

Using two images, I wanted to merge them to create a vision for the audience that would help them imagine getting out into nature and then balancing the image with the informative body copy without losing the audience was a challenge. Using MS Word rather than a design centric application was exciting.

PSA: Don’t forget your mask!

“Street Smarts”

This public service announcement flyer was designed to remind students and faculty at WSU and the general public to practice safety responsibility by wearing a mask during the Covid19 Pandemic. The comparison between risking crossing the street without looking and leaving home without a mask builds an associatiation with risk awareness.

The project was challenging because I had to capture many photos and build out the concept with what I found from spontaneous street photography. The flyer also needed to capture attention, have colors that allude to danger, and copy that is easy to understand.

Visions of Coffee

This infographic explains how affordable ending blindness is on a global scale, relating the costs to coffee expenditures in the United States. The data was drawn from mutilple sources and reviewed for reliability. The next step was to create a roadmap to connect the pieces and explain that blindness is a very sovalable problem on a global scale. I used coffee to help understand how an individual could help impact this problem and make the solution relatable to somehting many people consume daily.

Combining data and images to create infographics helped me understand the power that infographics have to quickly communicate complex information. Another discovery is how important layout can be in creating a linear path from the introduction of the data to the desired conclusion.
